ACTion Programs for Animals is offering a special half-price adoption offer in April

APA press release

ACTion Programs for Animals (APA) is offering its special “Spring-a-Pet” adoption offer all month of April. Adoptions are offered at 50% off, excluding small breed dogs.

APA executive director Michel Meunier said the nonprofit animal rescue’s adoption promotions help inspire homes for some large animals.

“Adoptions have been slow lately, especially for our large adult dogs and cats,” Meunier said. “When you give us a pet, it opens up a place for APA to pull the next at-risk shelter animal. It’s a win-win situation for all of us, including the animals!

Meunier said many adoptable dogs are trained through the APA’s Prisoner and Animal Worker Training for Success (PAWS) program. APA has administered the PAWS program since 2016 and does so in partnership with the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility. APA has sent hundreds of dogs to this program for rehabilitation and training. Inmates train shelter dogs in basic obedience and toilet training to prepare them for their forever homes. Pet adopters often specifically request dogs that have graduated from this program.

Find your next dog or cat at the APA Adoption Center, located at 537 N. Solano Dr. Hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment.

About ACTion Animal Programs

APA is a progressive animal welfare organization that seeks to improve the quality of life for companion animals in Doña Ana County and to significantly reduce the number of unwanted animals impounded and euthanized at the municipal shelter. Since May 2012, more than 5,300 animals have been rescued. The majority of them were dogs and cats/kittens removed from the municipal shelter. APA is able to do this through the volunteer work of rescue/foster coordinators, foster families, weekend adoptions and donations.
