NEW YORK, March 15, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — There’s a new top dog in town! Last year, the Golden Retriever took from Denver first place in the American Kennel Club (AKC®) 2021 ranking of the most popular dog breeds recognized by the AKC in the United States
The Golden Retriever has also been recognized as the #1 puppy in Nashville, TN and Boston, Massachusetts.
The Golden Retriever is not the only one to shake up the top 10 most popular breeds. German Shepherds, Poodles and Rottweilers are all moving up the rankings, along with the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, which broke into the top ten in 2021.
“The trends we see in denver are similar to the national trend as we see the poodle climbing the charts nationally as well,” the AKC executive secretary said. Gina DiNardo. “It’s no surprise that the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is also growing in popularity. He’s a good family dog and responds well to training.”
